Simplify 8x + 12 - 7x to x + 12
subtract 12 from both sides
simplify 28 - 12 to 16
Answer: x = 16.

combine like terms:
8x-7x = 1x = x
now you have
28=x+12
subtract 12 from both sides
16=x
switch sides
x = 16
