    The value of x will be solved as follows:

    log_2 x+log_2 (x-2) = 3

    this can be written as:

    log_2 x+log_2 (x-2) = log_2 8

    log_2 (x (x-2)) = log_2 8

    the log_2 will cancel out and we shall have:

    x (x-2) = 8

    x^2-2x=8

    x^2-2x-8

    solving for x we get:

    x^2+2x-4x-8

    x (x+2) - 4 (x+2)

    = (x+2) (x-4)

    hence:

    x=4 or x=-2
