The lengths of most older U. S. swimming pools are multiples of yards, generally 25 yards. However, newer pools are 25 or 50 meters long. Suppose an American swimmer is practicing for a 200-meter race. Four lengths of the pool is 200 yards, which is "close" to 200 meters. How close is it? That is, how much shorter is 200 yards than 200 meters? First predict the amount, using only mental math. Explain how you got your prediction and how you did the operations in your head.
