    2 (0.5q+1) = -3 (2q-1) + 4 (2q+1)

    distribute

    q+2 = - 6q+3+8q+4

    combine like terms

    q+2 = 2q + 7

    subtract q from each side

    2 = q+7

    subtract 7 from each side

    -5 = q

    Answer: q=-5
