This is a problem solving ... the ratio of dogs at the city animal shelter today Is 5:6. there are 35 cats at the shelter. How many dogs are at the shelter today?

    If the ratio you presented is 5 dogs:6 cats you would divide 35 by 6 and get a number (I don't have a calculator on me), then take that number and multiply it by 5 to get the number of dogs. If the ratio is 5 cats:6 dogs then divide 35 cats by 5 to get 7, then multiply 6 by 7 to get 42 dogs.
