    First combine like terms

    6c + 14 = 4c + 4, then subtract 4c from both sides

    2c + 14 = 4, then subtract 14 from both sides

    2c = - 10, then divide both sides by 2

    C = - 5

    First gather c's to one side and the numerical value to the other side. When doing this the sign will be opposite when moving to the other side of the equation.

    6c+5c-9c=4-14

    2c=-10

    c=-5
