- First multiply 1/3 times 1/6 across giving you 1/18
-then get the LCD of 5/9 and 1/18 which is 18
multiply 5/9 times 2/2 to get 10/18.
-Now you can subtract
10/18 - 1/18 = 9/18
-further simplify by diving the top and bottom of 9/18 by 9
the answer would be = 1/2
*Note: you do not need to get the LCD of a fraction when multiplying or dividing. You DO need the LCD when adding or subtracting a fraction.
