4 1/3 = 13/3
Mutiply the whole number with the denominator. 4*3 = 12. Add 12 with the numerator. 12+1 = 13.

Step-by-step explanation:
what I do is I take the denominator and multiply it by the whole number at the beginning (3 x 4), then add the product of that to the numerator (12 + 1) and then keep the denominator the same as it originally was and put the 13 on top
