In a parking lot of 240 red and blue cars, the ratio of red cars to blue cars is 3:5. How many red cars are in the parking lot?

    240 red and blue cars

    3:5 ratio of red cars to blue cars

    3 + 5 = 8

    red cars: 3/8 * 240 = 90

    blue cars: 5/8 * 240 = 150

    ratio of red cars to blue cars: 90:150

    simplify:

    90 : 30 = 3

    150 : 30 = 5

    Thus: 90:150 = 3:5
