    2x + 3 = 8

    Transpose 3

    2x + 3 - 3 = 8 - 3

    2x = 5

    Divide both sides of the equation by 2

    2x / 2 = 5 / 2

    x = 5 / 2

    x = 2 1/2

    If you put the 2 over 1 in 2 x 3/8 and multiply cross like normal fractions, you will get 6/8. This reduces to 3/4. Similarly, if you multiply 2 x 3, you get 6. Put the 6 over 1 and multiply by 1/8 to get 6/8 as an answer which reduces to 3/4 as well.
