One number is 12 more than another number. If one half of the smaller number equals one third of the larger number, what is the larger number?

    x=smaller number

    y=larger number

    x+12=y x/2=y/3

    x/2 = (x+12) / 3

    cross multiply and distribute

    3x=2x+24
