    Since you are given two equations

    y = 2x - 5

    y = x^2 - 5

    Substitute into one of the equations ...,

    ; x^2 - 5 = 2x - 5

    ; x^2 - 2x = - 5 + 5

    ; x^2 - 2x = 0

    Hence you factorise the equation ...,

    ; x (x - 2) = 0

    Hence ... x = 0 and 2

    And for the value of y

    ; Substitute with the value of x onto one of either equations

    for ... x = 2

    ; y = 2 (2) - 5 ... y = - 1

    for ... x = 0

    ; y = 2 (0) - 5 ... y = - 5
