When the refractive index of the material like glass are varying with the color or wavelength of the light, this phenomenon is known as the dispersion. And the glass prism disperse light when the white light are made up of all the visible wavelength then, its color are dispersed and causes the light dispersed in the different colors. When we place prism at the different angles then, it creating the effect same as rainbow.
