    Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. An object that has motion - whether it is vertical or horizontal motion - has kinetic energy. It is calculated by the expression:

    KE = 0.5mv^2

    where m is the mass and v is velocity.

    KE = 0.5 (55) (9) ^2

    KE = 2227.5 J
