Three small masses are positioned at the following coordinates: 3.0 kg at (3.0 m, 2.0 m); 4.0 kg at (0.0 m, - 1.0 m); and 5.0 kg at (5.0 m, - 7.0 m). What are the coordinates of the center of mass (or center of gravity) of this system?

    Answer: (x, y) = (2.7m,-2.75m)

    Explanation:

    Given m1=3kg, x1=3m, y1=2m, m2=4kg, x2=0m, Y2=-1, m3=5kg, x3=5kg, y3=-7m

    Hence coordinate for centre of mass (x, y)

    X=[m1X1+m2X2+M3X3/m1+m2+m3)

    3*3+4*0+5*5/3+4+5

    =9+0+25/12=34/12=2.8m

    Y = (m1*y1+m2*y2+m3*y3/m1+m2+m3)

    Y = (3*2+4*-1+5*-7/3+4+5)

    Y = (6-4-35/12) = -2.75m
