    I'd say the answer is "none of the above".

    - - Solar energy is free. (The technologies we use to collect it,

    distribute it, and use it are expensive.)

    - - On the time scale of human lifetime or evolution of species,

    solar energy is completely, totally, perfectly renewable.

    The supply is endless, it can't be turned off, and it's there

    whether we choose to use it or not.

    - - Solar energy is perfectly efficient. But the technologies that

    we use to collect it aren't. (They don't need to be, because the

    solar energy is so cheap and endlessly abundant.)
