A beaker of water rests on a scale. A metal ball is then lowered into the beaker using a string tied to the ball. The ball doesn't touch the sides or bottom of the beaker, and no water spills from the beaker. Does the scale reading decrease, increase, or stay the same. Explain.

    The body reading on the scale will increase.

    Explanation:

    The scale reading will definitely increase due to buoyancy of the ball. According to Archimedes' law which states that the magnitude of buoyancy force on the body is the same as the weight of the liquid which is pushed out when submerging the body. Therefore, the body reading on the scale will increase.
