What are characteristics of absorption spectra? Check all that apply. Light is absorbed, which produces characteristic lines. Light is emitted, which produces characteristic lines. Lines are dark on a visible light background. Lines are brightly colored on a black background. Lines are produced by electrons being excited. Lines are produced from electrons returning to a lower energy level.

Light is absorbed, which produces characteristic lines.

Lines are dark on a visible light background.

Lines are produced by electrons being excited.

    Explanation:

There two types of spectra: Emission spectra and Absorption spectra.

When an electron gains energy, it jumps from lower level to higher level. This absorption line appears as a dark line on a bright background. The absorbed wavelength of light appears missing in the bright background.

When an electron jumps from higher energy level to lower energy, it emits energy. Wavelength of the emitted energy as bright lines are produced on a dark background.
