A ball is kicked off a cliff that is 19.6 m tall. The horizontal speed given to the ball is 12 m/s. How far out from the base of the cliff with the ball land?

    D = (1/2) gt^2 where g = 9.8 m/s^2

    The time down from the 19.6m cliff is

    19.6 = 1/2 (9.8) t^2

    19.6/4.9 = t^2

    Square root 90.4 = about 9.8 sec.

    12 m/s x 9.8 sec = 117.8 m
