The geographical history of the Moon has been called as the lunar geologic timescale. After the arrangement, in excess of four billion years back, the low-thickness silicates cooled first and made up the underlying hull. This surface was presented to overwhelming meteor cratering right off the bat in the Moon's history.

Solidified water exists principally in profound cavities on the Moon's south post. Portions of these cavities are for all time in shadow and in this manner don't get enough vitality from the Sun to dissipate the ice and getaway into space.

About 3.8 to 3.3 billion years prior, broad volcanism discharged a lot of magma that streamed over the surface filling in the most reduced pieces of the huge effect bowls and shaping the darker maria we see today.
