What are the advantages and disadvantages of steel in electric, mechanical, solar and power cables?

Advantages of steel are:

It is light, economical, does not shrink at ambient temperature, and has high strength and stiffness per weight.

Its disadvantages are that its susceptible to corrosion, has low fire resistance and is not such a good conductor of electricity as say copper.
