You sit on your little brother's tiny chair. As soon as you sit on the chair it breaks. The force that is exerted by you (downwards) on the chair is 100 Newtons. Use what you learned about balanced and unbalanced forces to explain why the chair broke when you sat on it.

    The explanation is below.

    Explanation:

Forces that are equal in size but opposite in direction are called balanced forces. Balanced forces do not cause a change in motion. When balanced forces act on an object at rest, the object will not move ... Forces that cause a change in the motion of an object are unbalanced forces.

Unbalanced forces change the motion of an object. This happens in two ways. If an object is at rest and an unbalanced force pushes or pulls the object, it will move.

There was unbalance of force as my weight (100N) was greater than the strength of the chair.

The tension created by my weight unbalanced the forced and it caused a negative reaction.
