People need air to breath. If the air is let out because an aircraft isnt air tight, people wouldnt be able to breath.

A spacecraft has to be airtight to allow people inside it to breathe, without that people wouldn't be able to breathe, that would kill them.
Also being airtight allows an atmosphere, without it people can't breather and it can also kill them.
