When earths shadow falls on the moon the shadow causes

When the Moon, traveling in its normal orbit, goes into the Earth's

shadow, then the Moon is suddenly not lit up by the sun, because

the Earth is in the way. Anybody on the night side of the Earth sees

the Moon go dark, usually for a few hours. The event is called a

"lunar eclipse".
