A proposed electric vehicle makes use of storage batteries as its source of energy. Its mass is 1560 kg and it is powered by 20 batteries, each 11 V, 95A⋅h. Assume that the car is driven on level roads at an average speed of 55 km/h, and the average friction force is 250 N. Assume 100% efficiency and neglect energy used for acceleration. No energy is consumed when the vehicle is stopped, since the engine doesn't need to idle. Determine the horsepower required.

    horse power is 5.1219 hp

    Explanation:

    Given data

    mass = 1560 kg

    batteries = 20

    power = 11 V

    current = 95A⋅h

    average speed = 55 km/h

    friction force = 250 N

    to find out

    the horsepower required

    solution

    we know that horse power formula that is

    power = force * speed ... 1

    here speed is 55 km/h = 55 * (1000/3600) = 15.28 m/s

    and force = 250 N

    put both these value in equation 1

    power = force * speed

    power = 250 * 15.28

    power = 3819.444 W = 3819.44 / 745.7) = 5.1219 hp

    so horse power is 5.1219 hp
