If the sunlight will not strike the moon at different angles the moon will not change to its phases. The moon have eight phases these are the new moon, waxing crescent moon, first quarter moon, waxing gibbous moon, full moon, waning gibbous moon, third quarter moon, and the waning crescent moon. Without the sunlight moon phases is not possible.
