2. Banff and Minsk are located at similar latitudes. What could account for Banff's average yearly temperature being lower than Minsk's?

    There are many reasons that could affect this. For starters, air humidity and the amount of precipitation. Another can be geographical surrounding in relation to winds. Stronger winds could lower the temperature but if they can't reach the cities due to mountains then they can't do it.
