A 219-kg log is pulled up a ramp by means of a rope that is parallel to the surface of the ramp. The ramp is inclined at 35.0° with respect to the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the log and the ramp is 0.804, and the log has an acceleration of 0.618 m/s2. Find the tension in the rope.

    Explanation:

    Tension is the pulling force and also the cause of acceleration.

    the equation will be: T = ma + μmgcosx + mgsinx where x is the inclination of ramp, a is the net acceleration and rest all are known. μ = coefficient of kinetic friction between the log and the ramp

    given: m = 219 kg, a = 0.618 m/s^2, μ = 0.804, g = 9.8 and x = 35° so sinx = 0.5735 and cosx = 0.8191

    T = (219*0.618) + (0.804*219*9.8*0.8191) + (219*9.8*0.5735) = 135.342 + 1413.393 + 1174.642 = 2723.377 N
