To support a choking infant, Fernando held her face down in one hand, with her torso on his forearm and his forearm on his thigh. He slapped the infant five times between her shoulder blades with the heel of his other hand. When this did not expel the object, he turned her face up, supporting the back of her head with his hand. He did 5 two-finger chest thrusts, but the infant became unresponsive. Fernando then just held the infant in his arms until the paramedics came. What was Fernando's mistake? He needed to do the seven-and-seven approach. He needed to give the baby CPR when unresponsive. He needed to do chest thrusts first, then back blows. He needed to roll the infant on her side so the object could be expelled.
