Explain why the drill bit gets hot when it's turning in the wood

    The friction between the two objects creates heat.

    Friction is the main cause of heat when the drill bit is drilling. The same way that heat is created when you rub your two hands together very rapidly. Because wood is a great conductor of heat, the metal gets hot and remains hot.
