A 91 kg man in a 5.3-kg chair tilts back so that all the weight is balanced on two legs of the chair. Assume that each leg makes contact with the floor over a circular area with a radius of 1.1 cm, and find the pressure exerted by each leg on the floor.

    P=1.173*10⁶ pa

    Explanation:

    given data

    m = 91 kg

    r = 1.1 cm = 0.011 m

    then

    F = mg

    "F=mg is the equation for the force of gravity. where, F is the force pulling objects toward the Earth. m is the mass of the object. g is the acceleration due to gravity; this number is a constant for all masses of matter."

    &

    A = πr² + πr² = 2πr²

    so

    P = F/A

    where P is pressure F is force and A is area

    P=mg / (2πr²)

    P=91*9.8/{2π (0.11) ²}

    P=1173606.4 pa

    P=1.173*10⁶ pa

    is the pressure exerted by each leg
