An astronomical telescope has its two lenses spaced 82.1 cmcm apart. If the objective lens has a focal length of 78.0 cmcm, what is the magnification of this telescope

    Let Fo = focal length of the objective and

    Fe = focal length of the eyepiece

    Fo + Fe = 82.1 cm where Fo = 78.0 cm

    Fe = 82.1 cm - 78.0cm = 4.1 cm

    magnification = Fo / Fe = 78 / 4.1 = 19.02
