If a silver wire has a resistance of 4.50 ohms at 20.0 degrees Celsius, what is the temperature at which it will have 5.00 ohms resistance?

    T₀ = initial temperature of the silver wire = 20.0 °C

    R = Resistance of the silver wire at temperature "T" = 5 Ω

    T = Final temperature of silver wire

    α = Temperature coefficient of resistance = 0.0038 °C

    Using the equation

    R = R₀ (1 + α (T - T₀))

    Inserting the values

    5 = (4.50) (1 + (0.0038) (T - 20))

    T = 49.24 °C
