    45 mins

    Explanation:

    First phase:

    v = speed of driving = 40 mph

    t = time spent = 15 min = 0.25 h

    d = distance traveled

    distance traveled is given as

    d = v t

    d = 40 x 0.25

    d = 10 miles

    Second phase:

    D = remaining distance to be traveled = 35 - 10 = 25 miles

    v = speed of driving = 50 mph

    t = time spent

    remaining distance traveled is given as

    D = v t

    25 = 50 t

    t = 0.5 h

    t = 30 min

    T = Total time taken to reach the school

    Total time taken is given as

    T = 15 + 30

    T = 45 min
