Two small metallic spheres with equal mass are suspended as pendulums by strings of length L. The spheres have the same electric charge and come to equilibrium with each string at an angle of Θ = 10.00° with the vertical. What happens if the electric charges are increased?

A) Θ decrease

B) Θ increase

Eliminate

C) Θ remains the same

D) distant between spheres decreases

    It is not obvious (although it is not D) that D should be eliminated. C is certainly not so. D is wrong as well.

    If D is not correct then the distance gets larger or stays the same. If the distance gets larger then so will theta. If C is so (which it is not) then theta would get change and so would the distance.

    The answer is B. theta increases (assume that the added charge is the same as what was already there).
