Why do dust particles in a beam of sunlight appear to sparkle?

    Like any other object, light reflects off of the dust particles when they are in a beam of light (when photons collide with the dust particles). Since there is such a large quantity of dust particles, it is most likely because you are seeing light being reflected off of all of the particles in the beam of light.
