The statement, The word atom comes from a Greek word that means "able to duplicate", is false. The greek word for atom is atomos. The a - in atom means "not" and - tom means "cut". So it is not ot cut or it cannot be cut. It is common definition is indivisibility. This definition is defined by the philosopher Democritus. He observed that as he cut the sugar cube into smaller fraction, it reduces to nothing that cannot be seen in the eye. And so he proposed that definition.
