    0.376

    Explanation:

    Probability of male student [ P (MS) ] = 47% = 0.47

    Probability male students majoring in Engineering [ P (E / MS) ] = 80% = 0.80

    Probability that a student chosen is male & majoring in engineering

    = P (E ∩ MS)

    As per conditional probability rule:

    P (E / MS) = P (E ∩ MS)

    P (MS)

    So, P (E ∩ MS) = P (E / MS) x P (MS)

    = 0.80 x 0.47

    = 0.376

    0.376

    Explanation:

    Percentage of male students in the class; 47% = 47/100 = 0.47

    percentage of male students majoring in engineering = 80% = 80/100 = 0.8

    probability of randomly choosing a male majoring in engineering in the class;

    P = 0.47 x 0.8 = 0.376
