Why does hybridization of orbitals occur?

    Because by creating hybridization of orbitals you get lower than in plain bonding.

    Hybradization is needed for bonding and promote electon from a filled orbital to empty one and useful for atom that does not have unpaired electrons for bonding and make low energy bonds
