An autocracy is a government run by a single person. A democracy on the other hand is not. It can be either representivie (like the U. S.) where citizens elect officials to represent them. A democracy can also be direct (like Ancient Athens) where citizens have a direct say in government decisions.

Autocracy. The definition of autocracy is 'one person which is in charge in a government'. A democracy is basically run by the whole population and unanimous votes.
