    The statement is true.

    Explanation:

Robert Merton was an american sociologist and one of the most outstanding of the 20th century, he contributed with his studies to consolidate a place of relevance for sociology, in the analysis of crime and divergent behaviors/study of social life. In his structural analysis (Role theory), Merton was interested in seeing social organization based on the status and positions of people, to understand the organized set of social relations. Through them, members of society or a community exercise their roles guided by common moral norms from which consequences emerge (intentional and unintentional), and that allow their institutions to be identified. The imbalances, inconsistencies, role strain, impossibilities and conflicts between specific roles and actors are suggested as constitutive of the functioning of the social, and can therefore be assumed and specified in any construction of explanations that account for the dynamics and logics of the social interaction.
