The higher standard of living enjoyed by most American workers

    Explanation:

Socialism can be defined as a system in which production and distribution of goods and services is advocated by the group of people of a social group.

As the definition gives an insight into what socialism means, it could not succeed in the United States because the workers started enjoying higher standards of living.

If socialism is applied in the United States that will mean the eradication of private properties, rational distribution, etc.

Since the workers enjoyed their higher living style they were not able to sacrifice their ownership on private properties that is why socialism failed in America.
