    Although noy yet absolutely confirmed, the consensus of scientists is that about 5 to 6 million years ago the Colorado River began its work on the rock and the erosion caused by the constant passing of the water opened up the Canyon and changed the landscape forever. Today, the river continues passing and altering the landscape of this great geological landmark so that the Canyon that we see today may not be entirely as the one that there was about a 100 years ago, and may not be the same, in the future.
