Proxy wars are basically wars instigated by major powers without themselves being involved physically in the fight. in proxy wars, the major powers fight through their state and non state actors against their opponents.

Example of a proxy war in the cold war era.

one of the most significant proxy war in the era happened between the two world superpowrs, then, the soviet and the USA in vietnam.

The war was basically semi proxy. It was basically fought by the warsaw pact nations against Nato.

The war begun shortly after Vietnam independence, in the southern supposedly democratic state, after rebellion broke there against her tyrannical government. Vietnam had been divided into North and south, with North being communist.

The north, and the insurgents in the south started a campaign to take over the south, and also signed deals with Communist China and the soviet.

kennedy reacted, with an aim to protect India and australia with sending military personnels to train the south.

It is lyndon Johnson however who decraled war on North korea after a suspicious sinking of a USA ship.

However the usa miscalculated as it supported a very unpopular southern regime. They lost the war.
