The ideas of the Enlightenment started in Europe and soon made their way across the Atlantic and were embraced by Latin America. The Enlightenment in Latin America used new scientific knowledge to improve the areas of mining and agriculture in Latin America. Further exploration of the land was encouraged and new economic policies were put into place. Many Spanish, German, and French scientists brought their knowledge and enlightened ideas with them on their expeditions to Latin America. Social reform was the other main goal of Enlightenment in these countries.
