    C) see first-hand the evils of communism.

    Explanation:

By the end of the second world war, the East Berlin was under communist party. They are the allies of Germany and the Soviet. The West Berlin was however an ally of the Americans, British and the French.

East Berlin has seen the ill effects of the communism for many years. East Berlin came under communism at the rise of the Berlin Wall in 1961. Under communism, people of Berlin were not given the freedom of speech, almost all the business are controlled by the government of East Berlin. People are given less liberty under communism and they are not allowed to moved out or leave Berlin. Everybody was forced to work.

All these factors leads to the deterioration of East Berlin and there is unrest in the state.

Hence the answer is - --

    C) see first-hand the evils of communism.
