A truck driver plans to drive 1,000 miles in two days to reach his destination. He hopes to have no more than 550 miles left after the first day of driving. If he averages 60 miles per hour, the inequality below can be solved for h, the number of hours he must drive the first day.

1,000 - 60h less than or equal to sign 550

A. He must drive at least 9.167 hours the first day.

B. He must drive at least 7.5 hours the first day.

C. He must drive at most 7.5 hours the first day.

D. He must drive at most 9.167 hours the first day.

    Answer: C. He must drive at most 7.5 hours the first day.

    Explanation: 7.5 x 60 = 450 - 1000 = 550

    9.167 x 60 = 550.20 - 1000 = - 449.98
