    I believe the answer is : interpret the data incorrectly.

    Having preexisting assumptions or conclusions would drag the researchers into a state of mind where they're seeking confirmation bias.

    This would make them much more likely to interpret the data that would confirm their initial assumptions rather than looking it objectively
