John Ross went to the supreme court because he wanted to prevent different Cherokee tribes evicted from their lands in the state of Georgia.
Explanation:
John Ross, as Cherokee chief, tried to avoid the transfer of the Cherokee Indians that occurred from 1830 to 1838, (also known as the trail of tears) by legal means, noting that the ruling by a state court should not enact laws on an Indian people, but it should be the Supreme Court of the United States who did, however, when was expelled the Indian people, John Ross was expelled too from Oklahoma in 1838 by the president Andrew Jackson.

I'm pretty sure he went to court because, he wanted to argue with the government that they should not have to change laws and laws didn't apply to them since they were a independent nation. IM surly sure this was known as "the John Marshall Case". Or "Westchester vs GA" it's been a long time since I've talked about this
