The Stono Rebellion was a slave rebellion in South Carolina, during the time it was a colony of the Kingdom of Great Britain. It was a slave revolt, where many slaves who were enticed by the idea of moving to Spanish Florida marched down the Stono River towards Florida. However, their rebellion was not successful as a South Carolina militia intercepted them and battled the slaves taking part in the rebellion. The rebellion was headed by a literate slave and both slaves and white colonists were killed.
